Al Carr joined the House of Delegates in 2007 and was elected in 2010 and 2014. He is a member of the Environment and Transportation Committee and its subcommittees on Real Property, Local Government, and Land Use & Ethics. He is the chair of the Metropolitan Washington Committee, which vets legislation related to local utilities He is also House Chair of the Joint Committee on Federal Relations, which handles the relationship between state and federal governments. He was previously elected to the Kensington Town Council. Focusing on sustainable solutions, he has secured passage of legislation on education, environmental protection, clean energy, economic development, consumer protection, transportation, open government, public safety, affordable housing, and historic preservation. Al has a degree in engineering. He spent his private sector career as a businessman working in the telecommunications industry. He and his wife and three sons live in Kensington.
